MISSION OF DAUNIA TuR

Daunia TuR is an association which strongly believes in tradition but also in innovation. It is aware of the difficulties of the area and the need of new aims for the development of the territory.

We believe it is necessary to invest in a project that spreads over our area ,uniting human resources with what our territory has to offer.

The Capitanata and the Gargano are the "creme de la creme" of tourist offers. They invite you to discover historical, naturalistic and eno - gastronomical trails.

To spend an enjoyable holiday with healthy walks, good food and simple moments of relaxation.

The project plans to organise trips to the most interesting old towns in the Foggia area in order to admire and appreciate the beauty of the past. Tasting sessions of typical food in local restaurants or 'trattoria' to appreciate the delights of local products. Contact with nature has a pedagogical role as it reinforces the value of healthy living and promotes concern for the environment. Old farms and buildings are a part of our heritage bound to local tradition. Local crafts are also connected to traditions of the past.

"The present needs to appreciate the past and to bring it into the future in order to give the Capitanata the position it deserves".

PLANNED ACTIVITIES

1.FARMS AND RURAL CULTURE.

Trips to visit local farms, sampling typical local products and discovering rural traditions.

Visits to agricultural museums in Siponto and Sannicandro Garganico.

2.WETLANDS.

Excursions to places from .Varano to The Lesina lake, Federico II's marshes at Trinitapoli, the Salt lakes of Margherita di Savoia and the Oasis Saline lake to enjoy, with the help of an expert guide, bird watching and see rare animals.

3. HISTORICAL, RELIGIOUS ROUTE AMONG ABBEYS, CHURCHES AND MONASTERIES.

It is for those interested in sacred places. Trips accompanied by experienced guides to learn about the history and mysticism of the Holy places of the Daunia An area rich in churches and monasteries.

4. NATURE TRAIL AMONGST FOREST AND WOODS.

Guided tours to discover the natural beauty of the area, enjoy the open air and the art of photography.

5.TRIPS TO REDISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE SEA.

The Tremiti Islands are a jewel box between the sky and the sea, full of natural treasures and historical memories. A rare delight of nature.

6. OUTINGS TO SEE THE 'TRABUCCHI' AND GROTTOS OF THE GARGANO.

A guided visit to the 'Trabucco' of San Francesco'(more than a hundred years old) and the chance to see and learn about the traditional way of fishing from a 'trabuccolanti' (a skilled fisherman) and discover the beautiful grottos of the Gargano.
