Discovering the Gargano

A sort of separate world full of religious references, first pagan and then Christian. A natural spur towards the East, rich in beauty to discover and enjoy.

For centuries the Gargano has been a world apart. A mysterious place, a powder’ as the whole of Puglia, full of religious references, first pagan and then Christian. A rush to pilgrims in these parts, very, but long before that the figure of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina did become S. Giovanni Rotondo, a center of international attraction, c'era a huge serpent, threatening, loaded with meaning demonic by the faithful who came up to the Cave of St. Michael, The Monte Sant'Angelo, to thank the archangel of their deliverance from the terrible animal.

The natural position of the “spur”, so leaning towards East, favored over the centuries very profitable trade with the Balkan countries and Eastern Europe. A volume of business that brought wealth to the agriculture of the area, to the point of becoming prime land for export of citrus (because here, even though we are on a more northerly latitude of Rome, oranges and lemons are grown until May) that ended up on the tables of the rich S. Petersburg and Moscow. But this is also the land of good beef, the podolica and cheese, derived from the milk, senza trascurare l’anguilla di Lesina, o l’olio, or hand-made pasta and desserts.

In short, those who love Puglia know that you will never go here ever, but there is a growing feeling Directions for the first time. And this for a very simple reason: land that is capable of revealing a little at a time, just like a beautiful lady affascinane, which makes the mystery of her femininity, the invincible weapon to seduce.
